Lady of the Mercians (AD 30 - 605) - 30 years Rarity: LEGENDARY Civilization: England Talents: Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians, ruled Mercia in the English Midlands from 911 until her death. Born at the height of the Viking invasions of England, she grew up in a land at war, fighting a losing battle against Danish conquerors. It is sad that Æthelflæd ruled in her husband's place for a decade after he became ill. When he died in 911, Æthelflæd became Myrcna hlaedige, "Lady of the Mercians". Before her death, she had taken back a large part of England, and had more ready to surrender. Click here for information on other commanders! Review of Commander Æthelflæd: Æthelflæd is a Legendary Commander that players can obtain for free in RoK. By making progress in the Expedition Campaign, players receive ("Medals of the Conqueror") and can claim a daily chest reward from the Campaign, which comprises of additional Medals of the Conqueror and ("Treasure of the Warrior Queen"). The Medals can be exchanged for items in the Campaign's Medal Store - Æthelflæd Commander Sculptures (up to 3 per day), Epic Commander Sculptures and Dazzling Starlight Sculptures. Opening the "Treasure of the Warrior Queen" chests will randomly grant players Æthelflæd Commander Sculptures, universal Legendary Commander Sculpture (very rare reward), Epic Commander Sculptures, Silver Keys or Golden Key. You should accumulate/hoard the "Treasure of the Warrior Queen" chests and open a large number of chests at once to have a higher chance of obtaining Æthelflæd/universal legendary commander sculptures. Æthelflæd is commonly used by players as a Peacekeeping commander - to hunt barbarians and/or to lead rallies against barbarian forts. Note that her fourth skill provides a 20% boost to troops' attack if troops led by her in a rally consists of 3 or more different unit types. Some players in RoK use Æthelflæd as a primary commander in open-field battles but I think it is a bad idea as she is squishy as a primary commander and hence always the first to be targeted in open-field battles when spotted by enemies. Æthelflæd Commander Skills: Arrow of Iron - Deals damage to up to 5 targets in a forward-facing fan-shaped area by a factor of 800, reducing their attack, defense and health by 30% for the next 2 seconds. Thunderous Force - Take 20% less counterattack damage. Attacks have 10% chance to inflict Slow-down on target, reducing cavalry units' march speed by 50% and other units' march speed by 30% for 3 seconds. Synergy - Deal 35% increased damage to barbarians. Both commanders gain 35% increased experience. Fortress of Mercia - When leading a rally attack, rallied troop capacity is increased by 10%. When troops consist of 3 or more different unit types, gain 20% increased attack. Warrior Queen - Deal 20% increased damage to enemy troops when they are affected by Slow-down. Best Commander Pairings for Æthelflæd: Barbarian hunting: you can pair Æthelflæd with any Commander that you want to level up. I will usually pick a Secondary Commander that deals good damage and needs to gain some leveling experience. Barbarian Fort Rally: Cao Cao (Æthelflæd as primary commander) Open-field (early-game): Sun Tzu (Sun Tzu as primary commander), as he builds rage up quickly to trigger Æthelflæd's active area-of-effect ("AoE") skill Click here for information on other commanders! Best Talent Trees for Æthelflæd: Peacekeeping Æthelflæd is a top choice (along with Keira) as a primary commander for hunting barbarians efficiently (saves Action Points, higher damage dealt). This build prioritizes building up of rage as Æthelflæd's first skill (Arrow of Iron) deals 800 damage factor to up to 5 targets in a forward-facing fan-shaped area at maximum skill level.
