Rise of Kingdoms: Genghis Khan – Skills, Talent Trees and Best Pairings

Genghis Khan ROK 2022

First Khagan

(1162 – 1227) – 65 years

Rarity: LEGENDARY

Civilization: Monglia

Talents:

Genghis Khan, born Temujin, was the founder of the largest contiguous empire in history – the Mongol Empire. His father, the head of a nomadic Mongol tribe, was killed by Tatars when Temujin was only nine, and his family was abandoned by their clan.

Temujin’s rise to power began soon after a shaman by the name of Kokochu declared that he had been chosen by the Eternal Blue Sky to rule the world. By 1206, he had united all of the fractured tribes living on the Mongol plains, and assumed a new title, “Genghis Khan”, signifying his position as universal rule. Genghis Khan quickly embarked on a series of successful invasions into China and Central Asia. He was a brilliant military leader and shrewd politician, allowing him to consolidate the lands he conquered under Mongol leadership.

Genghis Khan died in 1227, after conquering the Western Xia dynasty. According to legend, his body was returned to Mongolia by a mounted funeral escort that killed anyone and anything that crossed their path on the way to their destination. Once the burial was complete, the escort then stampeded over the burial grounds, planted trees to further conceal the site, and finally committed suicide to ensure that the secret would never be revealed.

Review of Commander Genghis Khan:

  • Ways to obtain Genghis Khan commander sculptures: Wheel of Fortune
  • Genghis Khan is a amazing early-game cavalry commander, but will become outshined by other cavalry commanders later in the game (e.g. Xiang Yu, Alexander Nevsky). He can still be considered as a good counter-rally commander due to his high damage output.
  • The rage requirement to trigger Genghis Khan’s first skill is 950, which is 5% lower than most commanders in Rise of Kingdoms, which means Xiang Yu unleashes active skill damage on enemies much faster than other commanders.
  • In open-field battling with Genghis Khan, you should retreat and refresh your troop whenever his health falls below 70%. This is because Genghis Khan’s third skill provides 30% increased damage when his health is more than 70%.

Skills Upgrading Priority for Genghis Khan:

  • 5511 is recommended as the minimum setup to use Genghis Khan in open-field fighting. If you have sufficient legendary commander sculptures to spend in Genghis Khan, go for 5551 for open-field fighting, as the fourth skill is better used in rallying.

Best Commander Pairings for Genghis Khan:

  • Open-field: Saladin (Saladin as primary commander) – This is a “value” commander combo, as you only need Saladin to be at 5551 to be good enough for this to work. Saladin’s Support talent allows active skills to fire off more frequently (due to “Burning Blood” and “Rejuvenate” talents, which gives more Rage), which works very well when combined with Khan’s high active skill damage. The Support talent also provides protection against skill damage (“Loose Formation” – 9% skill damage reduction), which increases the survivability of the troop. Saladin also increases the survivability of the troop with his second skill (20% cavalry defense bonus) and third skill (30% skill damage taken reduction and 20% counterattack damage taken reduction).
  • Open-field: Mehmed II (Khan as primary commander) – Mehmed complements Khan with the following boosts: Mehmed’s Relic adds 20% Troop Health and 5% Skill Damage; Mehmed’s fourth skill provides 10% troop capacity bonus; Mehmed’s second skill provides 20% increased attack and 20% extra skill damage; Mehmed’s primary skill deals 1150 Damage Factor (1350 when Expertised) to up to 5 targets. All the above benefits increase the survivability and skill damage of Khan.
  • Open-field: Minamoto no Yoshitsune (Khan as primary commander) – Minamoto’s Relic adds a boost of 20% Cavalry Defense and 25% Cavalry Attack – a massive boost to Khan in terms of damage and survivability in the open-field battling. Minamoto also deals great single-target damage – Damage Factor of 1400 + 50% chance (75% when Expertised) for extra damage per second (Damage Factor 600). Lastly, Minamoto’s fourth skill provides a debuff to enemies (10% chance to increase damage taken by the target by 30% for 3 seconds) which can be devastating when combined with Khan’s high skill damage.
  • Open-field: Takeda Shingen (Genghis Khan as primary commander)
