Rise of Kingdoms: Huo Qubing – Skills, Talent Trees and Best Pairings

Marquis Guanjun

Rarity: LEGENDARY

Civilization: China

Talents:

Huo Qubing was a Chinese general during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Western Han dynasty, as well as the nephew of the famous general Wei Qing and Emperor Wu’s wife Empress Wei Zifu. He was known for his tactical agility and talent for long-distance campaigns, winning many battles against the Xiongnu nomads and expanding Han influence into Central Asia.

At the age of 18, Huo Qubing was appointed the “Captain of Piaoyao”, leading his troops deep into the desert in expeditions against the Xiongnu. His daring exploits earned him the noble title “Marquis Guanjun”. At the age of 19, he was promoted to the rank of cavalry general and dispatched to the Hexi Corridor (in modern-day northwest China) to battle the Xiongnu. Penetrating deep into Xiongnu territory, he nearly captured the son of the Chanyu (ruler of the Xiongnu) alive. The Hexi campaign largely halted the once-devastating Xiongnu raids on the northwest Han frontier, which helped reduce the empire’s reliance on corvee labor. At 21, Huo Qubing led 50,000 cavalry across the Gobi Desert in pursuit of the Chanyu. Upon arriving at the Khentii Mountains, Huo Qubing famously performed a series of religious rituals, symbolizing the Han defeat of the Xiongnu. He continued to pursue the Xiongnu, driving them back to the northern Gobi (Mobei).

At 23 or 24 years old, Huo Qubing, having spent almost his entire adult life in combat, suddenly died of illness. Emperor Wu was greatly saddened by his death, awarding him the posthumous title of Marquis Jinghuan. The emperor ordered the construction of a tomb for him in the shape of the Qilian Mountains he traversed in his campaigns. Years after his death, Huo Qubing’s military prowess and achievements continued to be commemorated and praised in countless literary works.

Review of Commander Huo Qubing:

  • Ways to obtain this commander‘s sculptures: Wheel of Fortune
  • Huo Qubing deals massive single-target damage to enemy (maximum Damage Factor of 2700) and inflicts to enemy a March Speed reduction debuff of up to 50% for 3 seconds.
  • Huo Qubing‘s third skill (Dragon of the Desert) gives him 30% Skill Damage Bonus and 150 Rage Requirement Reduction for the first 15 seconds of battle, turning him into a skill-dishing dragon for 15 seconds! The catch is he must not be garrisoned in a building for 30 seconds before the start of the battle. After 15 seconds of battle, he loses the buffs and gains only 10% increased Normal Attack Damage Bonus. Due to this third skill, you will want to play hit-and-run when using Huo Qubing (leave battle after the 15 seconds) and you will not want to use him as a city-popping commander.
  • Huo Qubing is currently the top two cavalry commanders in RoK with Alexander Nevsky, and he is able to defeat even infantry troops (cavalry-counter) in open-field.
