Rise of Kingdoms: Julius Caesar – Skills, Talent Trees and Best Pairings

The Uncrowned Emperor

Rarity: LEGENDARY

Civilization: Rome

Talents:

Gaius Julius Caesar was a Roman politician and general who played a critical role in the events that led to the rise of the Roman Empire. Caesar rose to become one of the most powerful politicians through a number of his accomplishments, notably his victories in the Gallic Wars. After assuming control of the government, Caesar began a program of social and governmental reforms, including the creation of the Julian Calendar. His populist and authoritarian reforms angered the elites, who began to conspire against him. On the Ides of March 44 BC Caesar was assassinated by a group of rebellious senators led by Gaius Cassius Longinus, Marcus Junius Brutus and Decimus Junius Brutus.

Review of Commander Julius Caesar:

  • You can acquire Julius Caesar’s commander sculptures by opening Golden Chests in the Tavern.
  • Once you have unlocked the second Relic in the Museum for Julius Caesar, this commander will become a viable option in end-game Open-field fights with the extra “All Damage +20%” and “March Speed +20%” boosts from the second Relic, on top of the boosts to Attack (20%), Defense (20%) and Damage (30%) from his first skill, damage reduction from his second skill, and up to 15% increased troop capacity through his fourth skill, which increases his damage output in Open-field battles (more troops = more damage). However, Julius Caesar lacks in area-of-effect (“AoE”) damage and debuffs, so you will want to pair him up with another commander that has these abilities.

Skills Upgrading Priority for Julius Caesar:

  • Maximize first skill 5111, followed by second skill 5511, followed by fourth skill 5515.
  • If using Julius Caesar in Open-field only, you can skip upgrading the third skill, which is for Rallies. The Expertised skill of Julius Caesar is not fantastic, so you can save your Legendary Commander Sculptures for other commanders once you upgrade Julius Caesar to 5515.

Best Commander Pairing(s) for Julius Caesar

Julius Caesar should be used as a secondary commander for single-type troops (i.e. Infantry or Archer or Cavalry units only), and as a primary commander for mixed-type troops.

  • Rally: Hannibal Barca

Talent Tree Build(s) for Julius Caesar

Open-field (Mixed units)

I choose not to put points into “Martial Mastery” in Attack tree, as it reduces skill damage done by the secondary commander (with Julius Caesar as primary commander). As mentioned at the start of this post, Julius Caesar lacks in area-of-effect (“AoE”) damage, which is important in Open-field fights. Hence, you can pair him with a secondary commander that does AoE damage. Following this line of reasoning, putting your points into “Martial Mastery” will be counter-productive.

Rally

If you plan to use Julius Caesar to rally Cities, you can consider to reallocate points into “Well Provisioned” in the Conquering tree to increase troop load and gain more resources from your city rallies.
