Yi Seong Gye – Taejo of Joseon, born Yi Seong Gye (known widely in ROK as “YSG”), was the founder and the first king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea, and the main figure in overthrowing the Goryeo Dynasty. Yi Seong Gye joined the Goryeo army and gained power and respect during the late 1370s and early 1380s by pushing Mongol remnants off the peninsula and also by repelling well-organized Japanese pirates in a series of successful engagements.
Yi Seong Gye declared a new dynasty in 1392-1393 under the name of Joseon, thereby reviving an older state, also known as Joseon, that was, legendarily, established nearly three thousand years previously, and renamed the country the “Kingdom of Great Joseon”. Yi Seong Gye abdicated in 1398 during the strife between his sons and died on May 24, 1408 in Changdeok Palace.

Yi Seong Gye – Review of Commander:
- YSG has been the best Archer commander in RoK for a long time before Boudica Prime was introduced. He is often used as a secondary commander to provide strong skill damage and is often used in non-archer troops in open-field fighting as a secondary commander.
- His Expertised skill covers a large area-of-effect (circle-shaped area), which is extremely useful in open-field fighting or barbarian hunting.

Upgrading Priority of Skills for Yi Seong Gye:
- 5515 – If you have limited universal Legendary Commander Sculptures, you should first max YSG’s first, second and fourth skills.
- 5555 – If you have sufficient universal Legendary Commander Sculptures, you should Expertise YSG for the Expertised skill “Arrow Storm” as the circular area-of-effect is worth it.

Best Commander Pairings for Yi Seong Gye:
- Open-field Archer Troop (Early-game): Hermann, El Cid (YSG as secondary commander) – both commanders give you march speed, which is lacking in YSG’s skills.
- Open-field Infantry Troop (Early-game): Alexander The Great (YSG as secondary commander) – 30% march speed on Alexander’s passive skill makes up for YSG’s lack of speed.
- Open-field Archer Troop (Late-game): Boudica Prime, Nebuchadnezzar II, Ramesses II (YSG as secondary commander)
